January

  • January 1 — A party to ring in several time zones' new years is held in the ROMA Basilica. Pictures from the event can be found here at our Flickr site.
"As always, we will be ringing in the new years across the globe in ROMA all day Thursday, New Years Eve. Dancing, fireworks, and fun in the ROMA Basilica. Come join us for your own new years changeover and/or to ring in the new years for another time zone. The schedule for celebrating is (all times SL time): 2pm: Party start (E. Europe etc), 3pm: Europe etc, 4pm: UK etc, Break, 8pm: Party Resume (E. Canada etc), 9pm: East US etc, 10pm: Central US etc, 11pm: Mountain US etc, 12am: West US etc"
  • January 3 — Torin reconstructs the top floor of Trajan's Market in ROMA, deleting several of the smaller stall in favor of two large anchor stalls. A small balcony and a teleportation system is also part of the changes.
  • January 6 — The Theatrum has a wedding roleplay event:
"Martina Cornelia Feronia Sekhmet marries Furius Spartacus Amonius in Basilica Cornelia (plot n°12, Subura) on 6th Januarii at 1 PM SLT with the "confarreatio" ceremonial. A party will follow in the basilica itself. All the citizens are invited."
  • January 7 — The Theatrum announces contest results:
"While still waiting for the return of the missing bride, please find enclosed the results of the contest for the election of the best roleplayer of the week. The discussion has been obviously centered on the absence of Martina Cornelia and on the safety of the roman roads, exposed to the incursions of barbarians. We had more than a dozen of partecipants and a good level of conversation. CONGRATS (ONCE AGAIN) TO CAELIA SEJANA AKA AIREDALE MAGIC WHO WINS THE CONTEST OF THIS WEEK!!! Ad maiora!"
  • January 13 — The ROMA Curiate Assembly is announced:
"ROMA will now have an assembly that will meet once a month. We are going to be replacing the ROMA Senate meeting with a larger gathering involving senators, citizens and group officers. The first meeting will be 11am Sunday 31 January. You can read all about the new changes at our blog (http://romacitizens.blogspot.com/2010/01/announcing-new-roma-curiate-assembly.html)"
  • January 17 — A new Subura Radio is released.
  • January 21 — Ragark Fiertze applies to be our second furry senator.
  • January 23 — First day of the Paganalia Festival 10
  • January 24 — Second day of the Paganalia Festival 10
  • January 27 — The Wednesday Roleplay event is the recreation of a Chariot race:
    "Today at 1 PM SLT a big event is scheduled, in cooperation with Ludi Romani: a reenactment of a Chariot race in Circus maximus! For best roleplaying i suggest you to read the attached historical note. 3 different achievements can be obtained during the race: ROMA Roleplayer of the Week, ROMA Quadrigarius Extraordinarius and ROMA Trivia Master. Wear the colours of your fav team, red, blue or white and be a heartly supporter!"
  • January 31 — ROMA Curiate Assembly meeting. Replaces the earlier ROMA Senate meeting. Enamabala Towradgi becomes the newest Censor in the Senate.


February

  • February 2 — Franck Gazov disbands the Praetorian Imperial Guard group. Achille Back contacts Torin to discuss reviving the Praetorians under the Legion XIII group (see February 5 below).

"Salve Praetorians, That's with much difficulty that I bring to you this bad news : The Praetorian Imperial guard will be disbanded tommorow the 3rd February 2010. Due to our inactivity and to the fact I have too many things to deal with in RL as in SL. I can't run this group anymore in Roma. I'll never forget you all my brothers in arms, and I don't forget Roma because I plan to come back to the Legion XIII. Vale Praetorians."
  • February 5 — Tonina Rodenberger rents a third plot (#36) in the Subura and turns it into a community pool:
"ROMA Citizens have a new community pool to enjoy! Tonina Rodenberger of the Gen Tiberia offers to the populo Romano a beautiful public leisure spot in the Subura. It is right next to the Palestra. Perfect for a post-exercize dip. Enjoy the new warmer weather in the pool!"
  • February 5 — The old ROMA Praetorian group started by Franck Gazov having been voluntarily disbanded, a new Praetorian group organized under the Legion XIII is announced.
"The ROMA Praetorian group is now an official sub-group of the Legion XIII, and Legion Officers will now be overseeing it and all Praetorian training. The group is now called the Cohors Praetoria. They are starting a new member drive, so if you would like to join the Emperor's elite corps, contact Toe Fermi directly, the new Praefectus Praetorio. (Please note this is the only active and recognized Praetorian group allowed in ROMA). Valete!"
  • February 6 — MajorMatt Matfield comments about the new community pool in the Citizens group:
"Senator Mettius Metilius Major wishes to thank Tonina Rodenberger and the Gens Tiberia for the lovely new addition to ROMA Subura. A beautiful pool next door to the Subura Palaestra is just what needed to complete the complex. May the Palaestra and new Tiberia Baths be a gathering spot for all of ROMA's citizens (as they were in ancient times). My heart-felt thanks goes out to my good friend and lovely neighbor Nina. Pax ROMAna, MMM"
  • February 7 — A new Subura Radio is released.
"My thanks to all the ROMA citizens who have helped with the new radio for Subura. Please IM me or drop me a note (if I am not online) and I will place the new radio at your domus. We currently have over 45 stations for you to choose from. Vale my friends and neighbors, MajorMatt Matfield"
  • February 7 — Zelda Walpole becomes the representative for the Subura Group in the ROMA Curiate Assembly.
"Avete Suburans. I am happy to announce that longtime resident Zelda Walpole will be the Suburan Representative at the monthly ROMA Curiate Assembly meetings. For technical issues in the Subura, such as unwanted items on plot, malfunctioning rental prims, and general plot issues please still contact the Tribune Angelia Rees or myself. Zelda will be taking a lead on helping organize social events in the sim, activities to build the community, and represent general Subura issues to the Assembly. Valete!"
  • February 7 — MajorMatt announces a new addition to the Palestra in the Subura:
"Senator Mettius Metilius Major wishes to thank Alekso Minotaur for his assistance with a new animated strigil at the Palaestra Graecia Metilii in ROMA Subura. Come enjoy the exercise stations, wrestling pit and massage table. After your vigorous work-out be sure to visit the Gens Tiberia Populo Romano next door. Pax ROMAno, MajorMatt Matfield"
"A new island has been added to the ROMA Estate. Ludovik Cazenove, MajorMatt Matfield, and Angelia Rees have moved their privately-owned island Atalante here. ROMA Atalante will primarily be their private home and builder’s playground, although they plan to make some recreational areas for ROMA Citizens while also enlarging the amount of marine area able to enjoyed with boats. Currently the sim is closed while the 3 rebuild, but they promise to have an inaugural party for all when finished."


March

  • March 3 — Meeting in Achille's Subura villa between ROMA Management and Legion officers to discuss the new Praetorian group.
  • March 5 — As announced on 24 February, the SL Roman Empire sim is closed to the public and its groups are disbanded.
  • March 11 — After several years, the Legio plots in Transtiberim and Maritima sims are dismantled. Two "Isles of the Blessed" rental properties are added to Maritima. The plots in Transtiberim are put into hibernation. Images of the Legio build here.
  • March 12 — Tonina installs an "En Garde" combat system on one of the abandoned Legio plots in Ostia in Transtiberim.
  • March 17 — The Collegium recruitment booth opens in the Tabularium.
  • March 20 — First day of the March Festivals 10 (New Years, Equirria, Quinquatria, Matronalia, & Bacchanalia )
  • March 21 — Second day of the March Festivals 10 (New Years, Equirria, Quinquatria, Matronalia, & Bacchanalia )
  • March 23 — A nefarious rumor circulates across the grid that one of the other ancient sim owners has partnered with ROMA. Torin and Angelia discuss it and decide to release a notice:
    "Just a quick reminder to all ROMA Citizens: ROMA has always been and always will be independant. And we will certainly never be absorbed by any other sims, current false rumors to the contrary. We're happy just as we are - a home for our unique, passionate, grown-up Citizenry. Prima et optima! - from Torin Golding, Prefect, by the scribe-skills of Angelia Rees, Estate Manager"
  • March 24 — Legion XIII announces new internal badges for achievements.
    1) Skilled archer, Assigned to the soldiers that won an Archery tournament, 2) Skilled gladium fighter, Assigned to the soldiers that won a Legio tournament, 3) Skilled pilum thrower, Assigned to the soldiers that won a pilum tournament, 4) Very disciplined soldier, Assigned to the soldiers that show a very high respect of rules, 5) Active soldier, Assigned to the soldiers that are judged most active in the group
  • March 28 — Curiate Assembly meeting in the Curia.
  • March 29 — Ragark Fiertze establishes the 'Roman Furs' Citizen-run group for furries. Torin installs an info sign for it in the Tabularium.
  • March 29 — Brodbiz Bagration is proclaimed 'Legionaire of the month for March by the Legion.
  • March 31 — The Theatrum and the Ludi groups hold a roleplay event in Ostia:
    "Today, 31st March at 1 pm SLT, there will be a RP event of the Theatrum Group at the Ludus in Transtiberium. You will see a 'naumachia' as it was held in ancient times and also fights against wild animals. Every spectator is welcome to watch and share the fun! Members of Theatrum Group will act according to RP rules."


April

  • April 2 — In the evening, Mickey James announces an impromptu 'Ave Weekend' party in the Tavern.
  • April 3 — Torin announces the ROMA Subura Community Garden Project:
    "Attention creative ROMAns with a green thumb! Announcing the opening of the ROMA Subura Community Garden Project. Now there is a way to build a temporary garden installation in the Subura and win prizes for doing so! See the attached notecard or our blog (http://romacitizens.blogspot.com/2010/04/introducing-roma-subura-community.html) for all the details. The garden plots are available to be claimed now!"
    Within a few hours, the first round of plots are claimed by Maali, peter, and Tonina.
  • April 3 — Airedale Magic is named 'Roleplayer of the Week' by the Theatrum Group.
  • April 3 — Around 4pm, there is an impromptu 'Ave Weekend' party in the new ROMA Subura Community Garden.
  • April 3 — At noon, the Publicity Committee of the Assembly meets in the Curia. They discuss various approaches to increasing ROMA's visibility. The members are Spaciva, Coinneach, Zelda, Angelia, Mog, Ragark (absent), and MajorMatt.
  • April 11 — ROMA Atalante opens its doors to the public, and a ritual and party are thrown to mark the occasion:
    "All are invited to the Rite inaugurating ROMA Atalante; the newest creation from your very own hometown boys, MajorMatt and Ludovik, and our bona mater Angelia .... now open to the public. We welcome you to Roma's vacation spot and Merfolk playground. The rite shall begin at 10:00 am SLT on Sunday, April 11, 2010. The rite will take place at the ancient submerged Temple of Poseidon. So grab your free swimmers at the dock and join us. Party on the Great Coral Reef to follow. Hope to see you there."
  • April 12 — New edition of the ACTA ROMA published.
  • April 15 — Torin installs the ROMA twitter box in the plaza, allowing all visitors to post a tweet to a special twitter feed: http://twitter.com/ROMA_VOX
  • April 17 — First day of the April Festivals 10 (Cerealia, Floralia, Veneralia, Festum Veris)
  • April 18 — Second day of the April Festivals 10 (Cerealia, Floralia, Veneralia, Festum Veris)
  • April 21 — ROMA Vinovium and ROMA Vicus are added to the ROMA estate.
  • April 22 — Torin announces the addition of ROMA Vinovium and ROMA Vicus.
  • April 24 — Legion XIII makes public its reorganization plans.
    "Due to the fact that our Legion XIII Gemina consists of too many groups compared to the number of our active members, Praefectus Vectus Margulis and the leading officers decided to carry out a maior reform to the structure of our Legion. This means in particular that most of our existing groups will be resolved and replaced by just one Legion Group for the all of us in the near future. We also announce that from now on Furries in humanoid size (on 2 legs and not tiny nor overdimensionated; they MUST be able to wear our equipment!) are welcome to join our Legio and be our brothers and sisters in arms in their comfy shape. The new Legion Group is already created by our Praefectus. For getting an invitation into the new group or any questions please IM or send a notecard to Primus Pilus Brodbiz Bagration, Princeps Achille Back, Decurio peter Woody or Centurio Tonina Rodenberger."

  • May 2 — Rental property feed goes live on romacitizens.com

  • May 11 — peter Woody begins to solicit feedback on roleplay within the Theatrum group.
  • May 13 — With Angelia missing and unable to be in world, Torin, Melanippe and Ludovik convene to cover the May festivals.
  • May 14 — William Gide throws an eastern themed Ave Weekend party.

  • May 15 — The Legion offers a visitor's kit at their fort.

  • May 15 — The Legion also offers a new extra equipment vendor.

  • May 23 — Curiate Assembly Meeting. Two new senators inducted, Ragark Fiertze and Zelda Walpole.
  • May 23 — The Legion has a tournament at its fort in Ostia.
  • May 27 — The Legion announces it is (finally) moving its weekly training session to the weekends.

  • May 29 — The LEGIO ROMANA COHORS EQUITATA group is disbanded by the legion and absorbed into the new incarnation of ROMA LEGIO XIII GEMINA.
  • May 30 — The Legion holds its first weekend training at 1pm.

June

July

  • July 17 — From 1-2pm, the ROMA Relay for Life group, ROMA PRO VITA, takes part in events inside SL to raise funds for cancer research.
  • July 20 — The Acta ROMA is published.
  • July 20 — Due to the summer holidays, the Curiate Assembly for July is canceled.
  • July 25 — There is a live meet & greet with student archaeologists at the Binchester project and ROMA Citizens.
    "Talk with the Archaeologists of the Binchester Fort Project. Archaeologists from the project that is currently in the field will be present in avatar form to chat with Citizens about the project and what they have found this season, and how their work can communicate with Second Life. It will be held inside the reconstructed Headquarters Building of the Binchester fort."

August

  • August 15 — Torin completes the ROMA Urbs construction.
    "Part 1 of a major redesign of the ROMA Plaza area has been completed. The old Tabularium building has been replaced by a small neighborhood called ROMA Urbs. Now, separate buildings house all of the citizen information that used to clutter the Tabularium. Hopetully this will make the info more accessible. I have even created a new game to help new visitors learn about ROMA. Come explore the new area, wear the attached HUD, and play the game yourself. Up next: rideable horses & chariots in the Plaza!"

September

  • September 4 — Torin completes a rebuild of the baths of Caracalla.
    "The redevelopment of ROMA continues with another huge refit- The Baths of Caracalla next to the Tavern have been completely rebuilt. Now the swimming pool is huge with private grottoes and lounge areas, and the baths portion of the building has been expanded to the west. Landmark to ROMA is attached so come check out the completely new Baths in ROMA and cool off in the pool!"
  • September 9 — Torin celebrates his fifth Rez Day in SL.
    "Thank you all for the happy rez day wishes! Five years ago I joined SL on a whim, never guessing it would lead to me having an ancient Roman estate that is certainly ancient in its own right (by SL standards), to being a happy member of a fantastic, passionate international community, and to having a wide collection of wonderful friends around the globe. Thank you all for everything each and every one of you do for ROMA and myself, and here's to another 5 years (at least) in ROMA!"
  • September 19 — The Legion fort gets new features.
    "New features have been made to improve the realism of our battles and making them even more fun! Discover the valetudinarium (camp hospital) wich recovers the meter, the new walkable link over the ground and much more."
  • September 25 — The Acta ROMA is published.
  • September 25 — First day of the Ludi Romani Festival 10
  • September 26 — Second day of the Ludi Romani Festival 10
  • September 26 — Curiate Assembly Meeting
  • September 29 — By this date Torin has finished the rebuild of the Trajan's Market building in ROMA.
  • September 30 — Torin revamps the romacitizens.com website.

October

November

  • November 4 — After discussing web options for the Theatrum group (since the .ning site went away), peter and Torin decide to move all Theatrum focus to the messageboard. peter sends a notice to the Theatrum group explaining the changes.
  • November 5 — Torin hangs the winners of the "ROMA @ IV" snapshot contest in the new Capitoline Museum.
  • November 19 — In order to revitalize the 'Ave Weekend' events, Tonina holds a pool party at noon in the Baths of Caracalla. The inner tube vehicles are a big hit and the party is well attended.
  • November 19 — The ROMA Citizens website receives an RSS feed for the blog.
    To help consolodate the various web activity of ROMA Citizens, we have embedded an rss new feed at the top of the romacitizens.com website. You can now use romacitizens.com as your default site for all things ROMA, and still keep up to date with all of the news in the estate. If you use Google Reader or any other RSS or Atom reader, you can also subscribe to the ROMA blog directly at http://romacitizens.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
  • November 20 — First day of the Ludi Plebii 10
  • November 21 — Second day of the Ludi Plebii 10
  • November 26 — Estate manager meeting held in ROMA (training of the Estate Menu)

December

  • December 2 — A meeting is held in Spaci's Maritima villa for those interested in revitalizing and writing for the Acta ROMA. A web site (http://actaromaworktable.blogspot.com) is created to compile material for the issues.
  • December 2 — From a request coming from the Acta ROMA meeting, Torin creates a page on the ROMA Citizens website that collects together external links relevant to the estate. http://romacitizens.com/links.html
  • December 2 — Torin brings winter to the entire ROMA Estate.
    Winter has returned to ROMA! A heavy snowstorm has passed through and turned the estate white. The emperor has determined that this is the perfect time to put up the winter holiday decorations. Come explore it! (Tip: use the Windlight presets to set your browser to the Sky>Foggy setting for the best views of the winter wonderland). Ice skating available on Lake Trasimene and you can sit in the Plaza and listen to holiday carols played on holiday bells. Saturnalia schedule coming soon!
  • December 3 — Torin blogs that ROMA is participating in Project Skylight (SL in a web browser).
  • December 3 — ROMA is featured in the inaugural issue of SL roleplay magazine AvataRPlay.
  • December 17 — First day of the Saturnalia Festival 10
  • December 18 — Second day of the Saturnalia Festival 10
  • December 19 — Third day of the Saturnalia Festival 10
  • December 21 — Due to the holidays, the Curiate Assembly meeting for December is canceled.
  • December 30 — Alekso Minotaur adds a plot to his Subura holdings and builds a Minerva Temple there.
